Lua is free software distributed in source code. It can be used for any purpose, including commercial purposes, at absolutely no cost. All released versions are available for download. Check their MD5 checksums and SHA1 checksums to confirm the integrity of the packages.
The current release is Lua 5.1.4, released on 22 Aug 2008. (This is a bug-fix release of Lua 5.1.)
Lua is implemented in pure ANSI C and compiles unmodified in all platforms that have an ANSI C compiler. Lua also compiles cleanly as C++. If you have trouble building Lua, read the FAQ. If you don't have the time or inclination to compile Lua yourself, get a binary or try the live demo. If you use Windows, try Lua for Windows, an easy-to-use distribution of Lua packed with several useful libraries.
The lua-users wiki lists many user-contributed addons for Lua, including tools, libraries, full distributions, and binaries for several platforms. LuaForge is the major repository for user-contributed tools, and includes LuaBinaries, a complete repository of pre-compiled Lua libraries and executables.
If you use Lua, please give us credit, according to our license. A nice way to give us further credit is to include a Lua logo and a link to our site in a web page for your product.
Please consider supporting the Lua project by buying a copy of the reference manual or by making a donation. Companies that use Lua may wish to become a corporate sponsor.
